Man kills driver who fatally ran over his wife
A husband
gunned down a 24-years-old car driver who had ran over and killed his wife last
summer. Fabio Di Lello, 33, yesterday shot to death Italo d’Elisa in the town
of Vasto, in the Abruzzo region. He left the gun on his wife’s grave before
turning himself in.
Roberta
Smargiassi died after being knocked down by d’Elisa, who allegedly went through
a red light, in July 2016. The 24-years-old was expected to appear in court
soon in connection with the accident.
The death
of Smargiassi, who was riding her scooter, has shaken the town of Vasto. A
group of citizens have formed a committee – called Justice for Roberta – to
seek swift justice for the victim.
Many
people took also to social network to express their protest. A hate campaign
was waged against the car driver.
“I ask
myself , where is justice? I answer to myself, maybe it does not exist! We must
not forget, we must fight, so that there are no more Roberta”, Di Lello wrote
on a website, adding that his pain had been turned into a videogame. He posted
on his Facebook page a picture from the movie Gladiator.
It is “a
tragedy within the tragedy”, the magistrate leading the investigation said.
In the crime of Vasto there are some details that
announced an imminent revenge by Fabio Di Lello against Italo D'Elisa.
Small symptoms of a vindictive desire matured over
time. Di Lello in fact has repeatedly hinted on his Facebook profile that
something would happen sooner or later. And now that his picture of "The
Gladiator" posted on their wall suggests many things.
